#ad Create the 3D Car Carousel! 🔥 Step by Step: 1. Open a new project in After Effects. 2. Import your footage and track your hand movement with the Motion Tracker. 3. Create a Null Object and apply the tracking data. 4. Create another Null Object, make it a 3D layer, and parent it to the tracking Null Object. 5. Search online for 3D car models in .glb format, download them, and import them into After Effects. 6. Drag the models into your composition and switch the Render Mode to Advanced. 7. Adjust the positions and rotations of the cars and ensure they all have the same size and orientation. 8. Divide 360° by the number of cars (e.g., if you have 4 cars: 360 ÷ 4 = 90°). 9. Parent the first car to the Rotation Null, then set the Y Rotation on the Null to 90°. 10. Parent the second car to the same Null and set Y Rotation to 180°. 11. Repeat for the other cars. 12. Now, animate the carousel by creating keyframes and adjusting the scale, rotation, and position of the Null Object. 13. Solo the car layers and export them with a transparent background. 14. Re-import the exported clip. 15. Now, get creative – use blending modes, add effects like Glow or Hologram for a futuristic look. 16. Finally, add UI elements for the best result! My Whole Workflow 👇🏼 This was quite an intense project, with over 50 hours of total editing! 😄 
Here’s what I did: 1. Footage Review: Reviewed shots from @davee.visuals, selected the best ones, and graded them in Premiere Pro to set the mood. 2. Stabilization: Exported in ProRes 422, stabilized in After Effects, and cropped to remove black borders. 3. Cyberpunk Vibes: Shifted colors to cyan/pink, brightened the car with masking/rotoscoping, and darkened the background for contrast. 4. 12 Shots: Applied the same process to 12 shots while hunting for the perfect phonk beats for the edit. 5. Enhancements: Added 3D camera tracking, overlays, custom animations, and Red Giant glow for a cohesive cyberpunk aesthetic. 6. Transitions: Created dynamic transitions like zooming into the wheel or logo and animating a plane flying through skyscrapers. 7. Intro Shooting: Filmed POV-style intro with tracking points to switch maps and select the car for the final 2024 edit. 8. UI Creation: Designed futuristic UI elements in After Effects to overlay the scene and build the map selection concept. 9. Map Design: Used Gaussian Splatting to animate detailed maps from Polycam with location texts. 10. 3D Car Selection: Imported 3D car models, parented them to a null, and animated a spinning selection carousel. 11. iPhone UI: Recreated the airplane mode selection inspired by Apple, adding custom touches. 12. Music & Timing: Synced shots to phonk beats with speed ramping and motion blur for a dynamic finish. 13. Final Touches: Completed sound design and polished animations to bring it all together. During development, I also spoke to Jost Vacano about historical carbon arc lamps and hard light. Side fact: Jost told me that he was one the first to start using lamps indirectly and the studios were confused as to why he started pointing the lamps at the ceiling to bounce them softly. I went in the opposite direction again and illuminated almost everything with direct hard light creating an intermediate world of nostalgic, fairytale-like journeys and today’s technology.
