Five years ago, my daughter joined our family through foster care. Even after adoption I never expected her to call me dad—I never wanted her to feel that she had to. So I just kept showing up. Doing her hair. Driving her to dance practices. Encouraging her to dream big. But recently… during one of our quiet moments, when I least expected it, she asked if she could start calling me dad.
