The time between restocks hasn’t been what I envisioned for my business, but grief and chronic illness have taken so much of my energy since December. My mom died in December, and after having her celebration of life in late February, I wasn’t really ready to start making new pottery until mid-March. I got back to work then, hoping to make up lost production time, but at times I’ve pushed myself a little too hard, and needed time to physically recover from the strain on my back. I know the anticipation of my first restock is high, but I don’t believe in half measures. I don’t believe in compromising on my standards of quality. I wanted to take my time making a well rounded restock that has a little bit of everything. (I actually have the kiln running right now, and on Wednesday I will be able to start glazing the last of the restock!) No one is harder on me over this restock than myself. I constantly worry people are disappointed with me, that people will hate what I have made, and that my business won’t bounce back from my need to slow down for a little while. And comments like this don’t help allay those fears, unfortunately. I understand we live in a consumerist world, and I may lose business by not having the inventory people have wanted the past six months. But I sure appreciate people who left me lovely, kind messages when I announced in December that I was taking some time off. I saw your kindness, and love, and it helped me quiet those fears of mine for the last six months. Thank you. (I am eyeing a date for the restock in about two weeks. Excellent news for Practical Magic fans! I will for sure be in the theater on opening day! In the meantime… I’m embarking on a mug making bonanza for the next year and a half. As for sharing a date of my own, I don’t yet have a set date for a restock. I was a little slow to getting back into production after my mom passed in December, and after we had her celebration of life in late February. But I’ve been quietly making new work since mid March, and setting it aside for a restock. I am glazing two styles right now, and when they’re finished, I’ll make more of the other three in my line. I just wanted to have a bit of everything when I did my first official restock of the year, and I also didn’t want to rush things after I came back to work. I’ll happily share my progress on these if you all would like to stay in the know until I send out an email update. #pottery #practicalmagic #practicalmagicmugs
