A castle straight out of a fairytale ✨🏰❤️ Originally Kylemore Castle, the castle is now known as Kylemore Abbey and is currently a Benedictine Monastery, founded for Benedictine nuns who fled Belgium in World War I in 1920. You can visit Kylemore Abbey, which is about an hour and a half drive north west of Galway. Tickets are €16.00 and this takes you inside the restored rooms, through the Victorian walled garden, the Neo-gothic church along with the woodlands on the grounds. Sadly, we didn’t get to visit as a popped tire the day before meant we were scrambling to even make this stop happen! One of my favourite things to do when we travel is to discover monastery libraries. Located in the area of Bad Schussenried, is the Schussenried Monastery. Less than two hours from Stuttgart and just about 2 hours from Munich. It’s famed for their Baroque library hall within with its candy floss painted colours. It looks like a confectionary dream. pov: you hop on the coolest train in Switzerland ✨🚂❄️ Welcome to the Gornergrat Railway! This train takes you from the centre of Zermatt all the way to the top - Gornergrat. The journey takes 24 minutes to reach the top where you’re treated to INCREDIBLE views of the Matterhorn 🏔️. However, in the winter it’s luck of the draw depending on the weather. So we had a total whiteout snow globe and couldn’t see five feet in front of us! Still, there’s something magical about the journey - not always the destination so we still had a super fun day. 🎟️ TICKET PRICES: If you have a Swiss Travel Pass it’s 46 CHF per ticket. You can buy these at any station or ahead of time. I’d recommend getting one if you’re going to do a lot of train travelling or are there for awhile as it can half the price of your journeys… but they can be very expensive (a 3 day pass is 244 CHF for one person). If you aren’t travelling much by train it can work out cheaper to not buy this. This journey without a train pass costs 92 CHF… EACH! It’s pretty expensive! Or a little tip, we went after 12:15pm and tickets were 69 CHF each. Which was a little better! Clare 🥰 We spent two nights Dromoland Castle which was just what we needed for some rest and relaxation but nearby is Loop Head Lighthouse (I’ll go next trip!!) and Vandeleur Walled Garden Day Five: Co. Clare - Co. Offaly 🔭 Birr Castle - It has what was the largest telescope on Earth at one point, how cool is that?! 👻 Leap Castle - Said to be one the most haunted castles in the WORLD! 🏰 Head back to the airport or spend a last night at Kinnitty Castle Hotel to finish the trip! I can’t believe that’s another Castle Crawl in Ireland over already 😭! We had the best time and I LOVE bringing this series to you!
