Took a trip out to the woods in Tennessee a while back. Think this was the first time I sang Let Me In outside of the studio, and it was a lovely feeling to hear it out in the open and wonder about its future and how excited I was for it. I have dreamed of this moment for a long time. “A promised return” means so much to me. It’s a lyric I wrote in a song recently, and in this context I love it because I feel so excited to return to you guys and see you again, but this is also a return to a feeling. These are the kind of shows I dreamed of before I had a career. Just me and my lyrics, playing in quiet theatres, all of us getting what we need from the words. In the last 10 years, I still haven’t come across a feeling better than that. I remember on my first North American tour I was just so grateful and couldn’t believe that every day we’d be driving to a new city and there’d be people there who knew my music, and cared for it. This will be songs old and new, all played in a way you haven’t heard before. I’m so happy and proud to have gotten to this point, and everything feels the way it should.
