One of my favourite videos of 2024… until I got my electric vehicle, this wasn’t something I thought would be an issue, it’s the 21st century, WHY isn’t accessibility considered in the design phase?! Since posting this video I have been able to speak and raise even more awareness about this on radio and tv. At the end of last year, I was part of a campaign with @SmartChargeEV by @Sainsbury’s who have made ALL of their charging bays accessible! FINALLY a company that is putting accessibility at it’s forefront 🙌 With the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in the UK due to end in 2035, the government needs to do more to ensure that public charging points for electric vehicles are accessible to drivers with access needs. With the charging-point hubs that have a couple of wider bays (accessible) and then loads of inaccessible bays, non-disabled drivers, including those who drive vans and minibuses, often choose the accessible bays for convenience. Why can’t these be blue badge spaces so at least they can only be used by people who actually require that extra space to get in and out the car? The government is currently only “encouraging” using BSI’s PAS1899 guidance but this should be made mandatory to ensure disabled people are not left behind in this transition! #e#evchargersw#wheelchairuserp#psau#ukc#chronicillnessa#accessibilityr#relatablefyp
