29 years ago today, “The River and The Highway” was released. Gerry House and Don Schlitz wrote something so powerful, and I feel so lucky to have been the voice for this song. We took a chance sending it to radio—it was so different from anything else out at the time. It crawled up the charts for months and finally hit #3 to our great surprise (and relief!). I don’t know why and how this this song resonates for people the way it does, but I’ve stopped trying to figure it out. I actually love that I can’t quite put my finger on it.
