Replying to @EmilyO. Kicking off my son’s request for a “cozy anime with warm Japanese influence” room makeover with a paint color scheme way outside my comfort zone! He requested light calm colors, while I usually gravitate towards dark blues and greens. Inspired by the beautifully vibrant anime sunsets after watching an episode of Frieren (and Totoro), we decided to go with a creamy white on the walls, and a cantaloupe orange on the trim. It’s bright, sunny, and feels like a warm hug. Up next I have a few DIYs in the mix, flipping some old furniture and ceiling fan light fixture, adding paper lanterns and bamboo texture. We’re bringing some of my Nerdcore home series to life, and working on a bedroom makeover for my son! When we moved in 5 years ago, this room was never really finished, and became a dumping ground. Now that he’s 10, it’s time to turn it into his own bedroom, but when I asked him what he’s going for, the best way he could describe it was “cozy anime and like you’re in Japan” 😅. He’s all about our Japanese roots, and wants to embrace that as much as possible. So what better time than now to reference some of my favorite anime Nerdcores we’ve done, including Pokemon and My Neighbor Totoro. He doesn’t want it feeling too overly cartoonish or childish, with a more subtle approach. He likes things light and bright, and calm. So this design will need to capture all of that, and stay within a strict budget. Creativity is my word of the year, and I absolutely love this audio. I’ve been in a rut lately when it comes to being creative, and even just having excitement for creating. Partly because I think trying to come up with content constantly can be draining, but also because I haven’t carved out time for myself to sit in quiet and allow space for it. Or put myself in situations to be inspired. Or even like John Cleese said, because I don’t want to try something new and fail at it. So that is a goal for myself this year.
