The world is heavy right now, and sometimes we come to social media hoping to escape it. I understand why you may only enjoy the content of fun facts, uplifting stories, or lighthearted posts from the hospital or my training. But here’s the thing: politics isn’t something I “got into.” It’s something that already IS in medicine……. in every patient encounter, every prescription denied by insurance, every family struggling to access care. When a child can’t get their insulin… When a mom skips her own cancer treatment because she can’t afford childcare… When mental health resources are slashed in underserved communities… That’s not “politics” in the abstract…..that’s my job. That’s our patients lives. So when I speak up, it’s not because I want to be divisive or cause conflict in the comments. It’s because I am doing my job as a physician. Because I became a doctor to care for people, and that means not just inside the hospital, but also outside of it…… where policy shapes the reality of health. Now, if that’s not what you’re here for, I truly understand. But this isn’t an airport. You don’t have to announce your departure. You’re welcome here, and you’re welcome to quietly step away too. No hard feelings. But I’ll keep using my voice for the people who often don’t get one. And if that makes my page feel different than it used to… maybe that’s okay. Because sometimes doing the right thing doesn’t feel comfortable. But it’s still worth doing. Thanks for listening.
